There are so many great shooting guards in NBA history that it can be hard to choose just a few. There are some that are pure shooters and others that are more of a combo guard. But, regardless of your preference, there are a few that stand out as the best SGs ever.
1. Michael Jordan - Undoubtedly the greatest shooting guard in history, and perhaps the most dominant player to ever step foot on a court!
The best thing about Jordan is that he did it all, and did it all at a level that most of his contemporaries didn't reach. He was a five-time MVP, a six-time scoring champion, a 10-time All-NBA team member, an Olympic gold medalist, and much more!
2. Ray Allen - Ray Allen is one of the most famous and iconic three-point shooters to ever play the game. He has 2,973 career three-pointers and is considered by many to be the top shooting guard of all time.
3. Tracy McGrady - The caricature of the 2000s shooting guard, McGrady was an elite isolation scorer that had every move imaginable in his arsenal. He was a lethal scorer who routinely battled the best shooting guards of his generation, including Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson.
4. Clyde Drexler - During his illustrious career, Drexler led the Portland Trail Blazers to the Western Conference finals two times and won the NBA title later in his career. He also was a two-time All-NBA selection and scored 23.1 points per game during his career.
5. Jimmy Butler - While Butler is still in the midst of his career, his play this season shows that he is one of the better shooting guards in the game. His dunks and shot-making ability are impressive, and he is an excellent passer.
6. James Harden - While the Houston Rockets superstar has always been an effective shooter, he also has a fantastic passing ability. He can hit the open three-pointer, make difficult passes, and even lead the team in scoring with his assists.
7. Gary Trent Jr - The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young players to watch in the NBA, and he will likely continue to develop as a scoring guard. He also has the potential to become a great passer in the future, so we can't wait to see how far he can go with this position in the coming years.
8. Devin Booker - While this young PG doesn't have the advanced numbers to get him to the top of the list, his eye test should put him in the running. He's an excellent passer and will continue to develop as a better overall player, which is why we expect him to be in the top 20 soon.
9. Isiah Thomas - While this generational point guard didn't win an NBA championship, his numbers are very good, and his playoff box plus/minus is better than most of the other players on this list.
